The background image is set somewhere far away in outer space. We can see a few planets off in the distance, but they are oddly half-transparent. You can see distant stars through them! Players can also admire distant galaxies and star clusters, which create some breath-taking views. Plenty of asteroids lazily float beneath your reels, making the massive galaxy feel a bit less lonely. Combined with the unorthodox playing field, it makes for quite a view. Now let’s delve deeper into this new Labslots review.

How it Works
You play this release on a something the developers call Orbital reels. It consists of three reels, and each one can fit three symbols inside itself. These reels are then intertwined, forming a snowflake shape. In order to win, you need three or more matching icons to appear in adjacent positions. However, this only includes symbols that are on the outside of Aeterna’s playing field. The icon in the middle does not contribute to any winning combinations. We also have to commend the developers for designing a good user interface. You quickly get the hang of things after you play the game for a little bit. Punters can spin the reels and set up Auto Play using the spin button. In the upper right corner, you can toggle sound, while you can open the paytable and other options on the left.
Players can stake between £0.10 and £50.00 on each spin, which we feel is a reasonable betting spread. The online slot offers a rather unorthodox space theme, and available symbol designs are equally difficult to understand. Best we can tell, they seem to be some kind of alien artefacts. They come in many different shapes and colours, allowing us to differentiate them easily at a glance. The blue-silver artefact is a Scatter, and is used to activate a special feature.
Aeterna Bonus Rounds
Every win you land activates a cascade reaction. Winning icons are removed from the reels, leaving room for new symbols to appear on the outer edges. Each cascade reaction increases the win multiplier. The maximum multiplier you can unlock is 20x during normal gameplay and 40x during free spins. The multiplier persists until no additional chain wins appear. At that point, the multiplier is reset back to one and the round resumes as normal.
Land two simultaneous 3x wins with any icons other than the Scatter. This will trigger the Twin Win Booster, which plays a special spin. One of the symbols that activated the special feature will be chosen during this special spin. The chosen icon is duplicated on the reels, and grants a 6x win that substitutes for the two 3x ones that were active until then. This can provide an incredibly powerful payout if things align well with free spins and multipliers.
Get four or more Scatters on the outside positions of the playing field to win a free spins round. Before any free spins can be played, you have to spin a wheel. This determines how many free spins you will be assigned. You can win five, ten, fifteen or thirty free spins, with a higher likelihood of winning smaller free spins. Land four or more Scatters during free spins, and you retrigger the special feature, winning the same number of free spins. Best of all, there is no limit on how many times you can retrigger the special feature! The value of the win multiplier meter during free spins is doubled, allowing you to get up to a 40x increase to your cash prize.
Verdict
Our silly intro aside, we honestly do appreciate this release. 1×2 Gaming and Black Pudding studios, the latter of which thrives on innovative titles like this, brought Aeterna to us. It was an interesting experience, and the slot remains fun even after its novelty wears off. As it currently stands, nothing on the market exists that can scratch the same itch. You should definitely give this game a try, both to experience something different and to have a bit of fun while doing so. Check out our list of slot sites to see where you can try it out!
